Delicious

Couldn't I find this in a hawker center for cheaper and better?

We usually like having nice things to say about places because that means it was time and money well-spent, but this café is really quite average. It's Malaysian pride and joy, and we love Malaysian food, but brought here to Singapore, the food was somehow just... forgettable. And we ordered the signatures, too.

Go only if you're at a loss for new places to try (although in Singapore, that's rather hard to achieve.)

Price range:
$10 - $20 per person

Parking:
Basement carpark within mall

Magosaburou

A hidden gem in the overcrowded Ion Orchard

If you're not looking out for this, you'll probably miss it since the main entrance is through the car park on the fifth floor. In the mall itself, you may spy a really nondescript doorway on the fourth floor that leads you to this almost hole-in-the-wall restaurant.

But it is great, really. Superb, even. The meats are splendid whether grilled to slightly rare or  slightly charred; the variety of sauces will have every individual picking a favourite; and the service is meticulous - they patiently cook each piece of meat for you (although some may find it very awkward with a waitress permanently at your table).

Please note that we have tried only the barbecue (but twice :D) and can't vouch for whatever else you choose to order. But why waste your time going all the way here and not have the best they have to offer?

Price range:
Around $100-$150 per person for the barbecue meats

Parking:
Ion Orchard enclosed parking with valet service

Alkaff Mansion

The landscape here is definitely not your everyday Singapore environment. The heat, however, is.

The exterior of Alkaff Mansion has nothing to really do with the restaurant, but the pictures are here for your viewing pleasure. It looks like a really nice place to host events, especially with the tentage all prepared and set up. Wedding reception, anyone?

Work off the meal by exploring the amazing grounds.

We found decent contemporary european cuisine and reasonable prices in a beautiful setting. No stand-out dish, and the desserts were moderate, but overall still very enjoyable. We chose to dine indoors, but for those prefer less formal dining, the outdoor area appeared more casual.

In terms of ambience, there's something for everyone here, with the gorgeous natural setting, impressive architecture, and alfresco dining option. A must-go for the discerning!

Price range:
Around $70 per person for a main and dessert

Parking:
Open air parking just downhill from the restaurant

Wimbly Lu

Pancakes and syrup - for those who insist on having dessert for breakfast.

This Chocolate Café is one of the rare keep-it-real finds that doesn't try too hard. It serves decent all-time breakfast favourites and a wide selection of desserts in a homely cottage-styled interior, all at very decent prices that won't have you break your piggy bank. If you're looking for a nice gift, you can also takeaway your own handpicked selection of  chocolates.

While they don't have any dish that is remarkably memorable, it's one of those places with an ambience that anyone with some taste would appreciate. Worth checking out at least once!

Price range:
Under $20 per person for a full meal and dessert

Parking:
It's located in a housing estate, so park along the road at the first legally available lot you see.
(We refuse to be responsible if your meal here ends up more expensive due to a parking fine :P)

SomethingToGo

Desserts for the Day

Don't miss out on the Praline Feuillette from this convenient takeaway spot in the Regent Hotel - it might be one of the yummier chocolate cakes around. All pâtissiers should bake their cakes with crunchy bases!

That said, the ease of access to this fuss-free bakery really adds to how much we like it. Definitely worth visiting frequently! Don't bother with the mediocre cooked takeouts though, unless you're trying to make the desserts taste even better.

Price range:
$6 - $8 per dessert item
Go after 8pm for clearance discounts!

Parking:
Drive-through Pâtisserie
Reserved parking lots for customers, slightly ahead of the main lobby entrance
